  • The Alden family has volunteered to feed out the 2012 calf to be raffled by the youth group for butchering and processing.  Thank you Aldens!!!!

  • New AQHA Rule for Performance Geldings:  If you are trying to qualify for any world show in this class, the horse must earn 5 performance points in 2011-2012 qualifying year then it will be 10 performance points in 2012-2013.  These are performance class points (not performance halter points).

  • AQHA offers a new Trail Challenge program for events that focus on outside trail courses promoting good horsemanship, safety, education and fun.  For more information, go on-line www.aqha.com/riding to learn more.

  • AQHA offers a program called “Show-Up”.  If this is your first year showing in AQHA approved shows, they have an awards program just for you.  If you are a novice youth or amateur exhibitor, you will receive a series of awards from AQHA as you enter 5-25 shows.  The awards are not based on placing but on attendance.  These prizes are available through AQHA.

    NMQHA offers 15 shows at EXPO in Albuquerque and additional shows in Las Cruces and Amarillo.  You can have fun with the AQHA program while taking aim at several NMQHA awards also.

  • AQHA is now offering a youth yearling halter class.

  • The youth are sponsoring all-breed classes during the LOEC Circuit for their friends to come and show with them June 16th.  A full slate of all-breed classes for only $5 per class will be held in conjunction with NMQHA classes.  A buckle will be awarded for hi-point 13 and under and 14-18 and a leather halter awarded for reserve 13 and under and 14-18.  Tell your friends about it.

  • AQHA is offering a new program for novice youth, novice amateur riders and green horses in 2012. AQHA defines ‘rookie” level horse and rider combination as: showing in concurrent classes designated novice/rookie or green horse/rookie. “Rookie” horse and rider team NOT having combined lifetime earnings of more than 10 AQHA points. Separate entries from Novice but will be placed within both the Novice/Green class then separately as Rookies. Check with the AQHA website for additional information.

    The top 3 Novice youth and/or Novice amateur New Mexico Quarter Horse Association point earners in each of these divisions will be invited to represent NM at one of the 2 AQHA Novice championship shows for 2012.
      Novice qualifiers must be residents of the state of NM
      Novice qualifiers must be current members in good standing with NMQHA by May 1 of the              qualifying year.
      Once invited to compete at the AQHA Novice championship shows, the Novice youth/Novice amateur may enter any class at the Novice championship show.
      Points will be kept in accordance with the current NMQHA point system as described in the NMQHA rule book.

    AQHA will begin offering Ranch Horse Pleasure classes at AQHA approved shows beginning in January 2012. This class is an individual work class. It requires use of a pattern of prescribed optional maneuvers. Points won in this class will be eligible for Incentive Fund awards and regular AQHA ROM and Champion performance titles.If you own/ride a registered Quarter Horse, make 2012 your year to show with us. Shows held in Albuquerque will be in the weather-controlled Indoor Horse Arena. Come have fun, we appreciate our competitors and extend a genuine “Glad to see ya”.

    EEC: April 21-22
    Border Circuit – SWQHA May 25 - 28
    LOEC: June 16-17
    SEC: July 14-15

  • Berniece Zielke and Ron Morris Honored -

    The 2011 NMSF Futurity had a moment of appreciation for Berniece Zielke and Ron Morris as they were honored for their many years of promoting and chairing the NMQHA Futurity.  The couple received a beautiful plaque, shown in the picture being presented by NMQHA President, Ruth Blakely.

  • Obtain your rule book from AQHA and see the changes for 2012 with more options for everyone. NMQHA is planning our 2012 show season with some reduced fees and great opportunities to earn AQHA points plus NMQHA awards. Watch our website for early info on the shows.
  • NMQHA Alliances -
    Part of NMQHA’s mission is to develop and foster alliances with other horse organizations to improve events where the American Quarter Horse competes.  NMQHA supports AQHA horses competing in dressage, reining and rodeo.  The USEF/USDF Fiesta of Dressage is July 2-3 and is co-approved by AQHA and sponsored by NMQHA.  If you have an interest in dressage for Quarter Horses, come out and see us at EXPO.

    NMQHA also sponsors AQHA approved Quarter Horses classes in NM Reining Horse Association’s June NRHA show at the Santa Fe Horse Park, June 11-12.  NRHA and AQHA classes will be held on June 11. 

    NMQHYA has invited youth competitors in rodeo, working cow horse and ranch horse events to join show competitors as part of NM Youth Team at the AQHA Youth World Show in Oklahoma City in August.  More information @ www.nmqha.com

    NMQHA members have a broad range of activities and interests where the American Quarter Horse is the ‘star’.  Join us and help us celebrate this versatile horse!

  • AQHA has released the following information in the Quarter Horse Chronicle.

    1. Exhibitors can show three (3) horses in ‘individual’ work classes, if combined to ‘all age’ then the limit is four (4).
    2. Select riders can now ride one horse in Select and a different horse in Amateur.
    3. Cotton ear plugs are legal, as are slip-on easy boots.
    4. Novice Youth can show ANY horse without a permit.  The owner can show the same horse in the show BUT not in the same class.
    5. There is a NEW reining pattern.
    6. Any Youth or Amateur can lease a horse; an agreement and a copy of the contract must be filed with AQHA.
